Who Should Try Reflexology?

Reflexology can benefit people of all ages and depending on the length of time the condition has been present, can improve or eliminate many ailments during a course of four to six weekly treatments.

Reflexology is considered a safe and effective way of helping the body heal itself and we are able to treat most of the everyday ailments and problems for which a person would normally consult a GP.

Guiding Principles of Reflexology

Reflexologists do not heal clients; the body repairs itself.

The reflexologist acknowledges that he or she is a participant in the session, rather than "the healer." This is an acknowledgement that reflexology is offered to help bring the person back into balance so that the body can nurture and repair itself.

Humans consist of a physical and emotional body, with a mind and spirit that are all interdependent.

The reflexologist takes into account all aspects of the client's being: body, emotion, mind, and spirit. A relaxed body can induce calm emotions, a serene mind, and an integrated spirit.

The body responds to touch, which can facilitate healing on all levels.

Frequently, clients will think they have to "focus" or "concentrate" to feel the benefits. While being quiet will frequently induce a deeper feeling in the novice, the client needs to have no special skills or habits for reflexology to work. Reflexologists maintain that as long as the practitioner has knowledge, stays centered, and allows the flow of energy to occur, the client will respond positively.

Practitioners and clients may feel energy move.

A reflexologist may feel the energy move from a point of pressure on feet, hands or ears throughout body. For example, when working on the spleen and gall bladder points, the practitioner can access the points at the same time and feel a flow of energy. Due to the power of these two points, the client may also feel the flow.

Most people after a Reflexology treatment will feel better with a sense of calm and new found mental and physical relaxation.

Your Feet Are The Mirror Of Your Body!

Our feet are really the mirror of our body and consist of 20 muscles, 26 bones, 100 ligaments and an intricate network of nerves and blood vessels. The condition of our feet does in-fact reflect the state of our health.

Foot issues such as blisters, bunions, calluses and corns often cause internal health problems and fatigue. Also some disorders like heart disease, diabetes and MS will actually show up in the feet and may hurt, quite some time before the actual organs show the symptoms. Foot pain can indeed camouflage serious aliments so it's important if you have foot issues to take immediate action.

Our big toe is responsible for helping to control balance along with other muscles of the feet, it is estimated each foot is subjected to 600 tons per day for an average weighted person (68 to 70 kilo). Imagine if you are over weight just how many extra tons your feet are taking per day. With this in mind for overweight persons, reflexology is the perfect treatment to introduce to. Not only are your feet gaining the benefit but your whole body is receiving and clearing blocked energy.

I believe everyone can benefit from Reflexology, however like any treatment it's not a magic wand and does need interaction from you (my client) in the areas of eating the right foods, drinking plenty of water and exercising.

Reflexology is based on Zone Therapy

There are over 7,000 nerve endings in each foot and this probably explains why we feel so much better after a reflexology treatment. You may notice after a hard day on your feet, your feet not only hurt but you feel tired, yucky and ready for bed. By gently massaging your feet after a hard days work it helps us relax and naturally heal.

Reflexology is based on Zone Therapy and Zones are longitudinal lines of energy going from the feet to the brain.

As we apply pressure to the feet we are working and stimulating these lines which have a rejuvenating and natural healing effect on the whole body.

We have 10 zones in total, five on each foot, with the big toe as zone one, the second toe zone two, the third two as zone three, the forth toe as zone four and lastly the fifth toe / baby toe as the fifth zone. The fingers then also link up to the toes in the same way with the thumb being zone one and little finger being zone five.

The zones are like slices throughout the body, if you imagine a line down the centre of the body, this gives you the right foot and left foot. Right side of body on the right foot and left side of the body on the left foot.

When we are working on the feet we are automatically working the whole of the body, if a sensitive area is felt in any one area of the foot this can cause an imbalance in the entire zone. For example if you feel a sensitive area in the left side of the heel, it could be effecting the left side of the shoulder or hip.

Zone one is the most important zone in your body as it's linked to all our vital organs and functions such as the spine, central nervous system, brain and pituitary gland etc. We generally find on most clients that Zone one is most sensitive and is usually linked to back issues.

When we have pain or discomfort in the feet it means that energy is blocked and with Reflexology the blockage can be removed to allow the body to heal.
